12 Year Old & 49 Year Old make up Team in First Olympic Qualifier

The Skateboard GB National Team will come together for the first time in competition at the World Championships this week.

The team is formed of ten skateboarders which were selected last year. Amongst them are Tommy Calvert (12) and Andy Macdonald (49), which is the biggest age range between two skateboarders of any national team in the world. Both will compete in the same competition, with no upper or lower age limits.

At just twelve years old, Liverpool born Tommy Calvert is the youngest member in the team, whereas forty-nine year old Andy Macdonald is a competition veteran, podiuming at various global events, alongside the likes of Tony Hawk and Bob Burnquist.

Tommy and Andy will be joined by Olympic bronze medallist Sky Brown, fellow Olympian Bombette Martin, as well as Lola Tambling, Lilly Strachan, George O’Neill, Jesse Thomas in the park discipline, plus Alex Decunha and Joe Hinson in the street events.

This will be the first skateboard park Olympic qualifying event, aiming towards the Paris 2024 summer games and the second street event.

The World Skate World Championships takes place in Sharjah, UAE between 19th January – 12th February 2023.
